"Just a quick note to say thanks for the excellent driving fundamentals class last week.  I learned a number of things that were quickly put to use.  Seat and mirror positioning, proper steep terrain parking brake procedure most notably, along with further practice 2-foot driving through obstacles.  Very enlightening and I gained further insight into Toyota 4x4 design and ‘fuses’ in the system designed to fail before catastrophic damage i.e. CVs, tie rods, sway bar links.  I also enjoyed your winching lecture - utilizing the full winch rope technique."

"Today’s class was on compass and maps out in the field.  I think I may now have a grasp on the compass (not guaranteed) but definitely have a better understanding on how to use it -   “Fred is in the shed”.  Our trainer, Eric Ross, with Sierra Mechanica had lots of patience!  Especially in the heat - still really hot at 7,400 feet."

"Took Eric’s recovery class yesterday and highly recommend checking it out.  Eric has a ton of knowledge and experience with this stuff and does a phenomenal job relaying stuff that’ll keep you safer out there.  The class was affordable to boot (the follow-on recovery gear shopping binge may not be, lol)"

"I recently attended a maps and compass training class where I learned some orienteering skills in the field with Eric Ross @sierramechanica.  We learned so much!  How to orient the map to the landscape.  How to find North.  How to account for magnetic declination.  How to find a bearing for a feature in the landscape.  How to navigate using a bearing.  How to triangulate out position using several identifiable features around us.  The scale of the map you are using and the level of detail on the map is extremely important when navigating.  Not all compasses are created equal.  If you're interested in learning some outdoor or offroad skills,  check out Eric's website for a list of classes he offers."

"Thank you Eric!  It was great to learn what a hi-lift is for...and what it ISN'T for!  Additionally, super valuable to learn how to use it as a winch, especially for rear direction self-recovery."
